BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN INDUSTRY & SCHOOLS
A new bridge has been built in Hoddlesden which celebrates the area's local heroes. The 10 metre bridge has been built by apprentices from engineering firm WEC Group's Training Academy and students from Darwen Vale High School.
It has been donated to Darwen Anglers for members to enjoy for years to come. And the structure has been given a special inscription to celebrate local heroes. It reads: 'Listed below are the names of special people who gave their time and talent to change the surrounding area for the better.' The message also bears the names of Darwen Vale pupils who helped give the bridge its identity.
A spokesman for WEC said the project focused on bringing industry and schools together. 'The apprentices were able to master the skills they had learned over their first year and fabricate the bridge, whilst Darwen Vale students used their creativity to design the side panels,' he said.
The 10m structure was donated to the Darwen Anglers by WEC Group and will be enjoyed by anglers for many years to come.
