Increased Laser Cutting Capacity at MTL Advanced with new 6m x 2.5m Fibre Laser.

WEC Group has invested in a new automated large format fibre laser cutting machine which has been commissioned at our Rotherham division, MTL Advanced, this month.

As part of an ongoing investment strategy across the company, the brand new 6m x 2.5m 6kW Trumpf Fibre laser provides superior contour precision and higher part quality than most other laser cutting machines on the market.

The new laser comes fully equipped with a LoadMaster, automatically loading sheets to take the strain off operators and to improve speed and productivity.

Ideal for thin and fast cutting, the fibre laser will enable MTL to retain a competitive advantage on large volume production contracts, such as a recent multi-million pounds order to supply complex safety critical aluminium fabrications for the rail industry.

Karl Stewart, Commercial Director at MTL Advanced, said: "Investment in the latest manufacturing equipment allows the business to remain competitive and enjoy sustained growth. This latest investment which now totals £8.5m over the last 18 months enhances our production capacity and allows the business to provide a complete service to customers and the markets we serve.

"Lean manufacturing and automation continues to be an essential part of our strategy where we have automated large scale laser cutting machines, a robotic 640 tonne 7.3m press brake, and 10 robotic welding cells."

We now have 25 laser cutting machines available across the Group, and have the capability to cut stainless and mild steel up to 25mm thick and aluminium up to 20mm thick. We also provide cutting of tube, box section and most open profiles in-house.
