They work alongside key partners and local authorities to achieve an ever-closer alignment between the needs of employers, individuals, communities and the suppliers of skills.

Established for over 40 years, WEC Group have grown from a small welding & fabrication shop operating from a makeshift shed in Darwen, Lancashire to one of the largest contract manufacturing companies in the UK – supplying OEMs and small businesses alike.
Apprenticeships are at the heart of WEC Group’s continued growth and success and the WEC Group Engineering Academy is one of a kind in the UK. The award-winning academy is a member of The AWFTE – (Association of Welding & Fabrication Training & Education), is a TWI (The Welding Institute) certified welder training centre and has also recently become a Lincoln Electric Approved Training Centre. The in-house facility provides individuals with the skills and qualifications required to carve out a successful career in Engineering.
WEC Group offer apprenticeships at both intermediate and advanced level in welding/fabrication, CNC machining and laser cutting/press brake operating amongst many others and over 200 apprentices have come through the doors of their Academy since 2006.
WEC Group’s Managing Director Steve Hartley added: “Having started out in my own career as an apprentice, I am passionate about providing the opportunity for learners to embark on a successful and meaningful career and understand the great value that apprentices bring to the continued growth and success of the WEC Group."
"WEC Engineering Academy was created with this in mind, to ensure that students in the local community have access to the highest quality training provision. Our membership with GMLPN will ensure that we have the opportunity to create partnerships and share best practice, thus ensuring that our programmes continue to provide the highest standard of learning and development.”
WEC Group are currently recruiting apprentices for their September 2022 intake, with a variety of engineering opportunities available across their UK based divisions. For more information about the Group's available apprenticeships or to apply, visit their Current Vacancies page.
