WEC Group to showcase increased laser cutting, machining and fabrication capacity at Subcon 2018.

We will be showcasing our increased laser cutting, CNC machining and fabrication capacity at Subcon 5 - 7 June at the NEC, Birmingham on stand C15.

Since exhibiting at the show last year, we have invested £4.5m in two state-of-the-art fibre laser cutting machines for our Rotherham and Knowsley-based divisions, a third sliding head lathe for WEC Machining in Blackburn as well as additional manufacturing floorspace.

On the back of a series of large fabrication contracts, we have also increased our staff numbers from 800 to 875 in the space of 12 months.

Our brand new 6kW 6m x 2.5m Trumpf fibre laser machine, which was commissioned at MTL Advanced in January, provides superior contour precision and higher part quality than most other machines and the market.

Fully equipped with a LoadMaster and ideal for thin and fast cutting, the new machine will enable MTLA to retain a competitive advantage on large volume production contracts.

As part of our ongoing investment plan, we have also invested £3m in a larger 33,000 sq. ft. premises for our Knowsley-based division, 5750 Components, as well as a state-of-the-art 4m x 2m fibre laser cutting machine and two new press brakes.

The 8kW 5040 Trumpf TruLaser comes fully fitted with an automated LiftMaster and is now the fastest laser cutting machine within the Group, offering high speed nitrogen cutting on a large range of materials as well the capability to cut 40mm stainless steel, 25mm mild steel and aluminium.

The recent investments complement the Group's wider subcontract manufacturing line-up which includes tube and box section cutting up to 6m length and 220mm diameter, waterjet cutting of almost any material up to 200mm thick, AS9100 accredited CNC machining and precision engineering services as well as extensive welding/fabrication, structural steelwork and metal finishing services.

Further investments are already on the horizon as we are also planning on commissioning a brand new automated powder coating unit at HTA Group in Coventry this summer, to mirror our current powder coating facility in Darwen.
