Latest plasma investment for WEC Group stems new profiling division - Introducing WEC Plasma!
WEC Group has founded brand new plasma cutting division WEC Plasma at their Shadsworth Industrial Estate facility in Blackburn. The creation of the new subsidary comes off the back of a recent investment in the latest plasma cutting technology. The Group has invested in a brand-new high definition multi bevel plasma cutting machine, offering an alternative cutting service to laser and waterjet cutting.
The new Esprit plasma cutting machine can process parts of up 10m x 2.5m x 50mm, which will enable WEC Plasma to offer more competitive lead times and pricing for thicker profiles. Ideally located within the Group's specialist waterjet cutting facility (WECJet), the new machine is a welcome addition to WEC's already extensive large profiling machinery line-up.
The new plasma cutting investment is also fitted with a fully rotational bevelling head, providing WEC Plasma with the capability to cut chamfered edges up to ± 50 degrees which is suitable for radius edge weld preps and countersinks. This greatly reduces or eliminates the need for costly secondary operations, therefore enabling WEC Plasma to offer significant cost savings to their customers. In addition to cutting parts with outstanding contour quality, the new plasma cutting machine is fitted with “true hole” technology for 3mm to 25mm mild steel and can also produce excellent holes in thicknesses above this.
Gareth Taylor, General Manager of the WECJet & WEC Laser divisions said: "We are pleased to add plasma cutting to our portfolio of steel profiling services. Being able to offer our customers a choice between laser, waterjet and plasma cutting allows us to provide them with the most cost effective solution for both thin gauge and/or thicker plate requirements, keeping us at the forefront of the metalworking industry.”
Mr Taylor added: "It's great to see the new machine in full production and this new addition has provided us with a much needed capacity boost over this extremely busy post-lockdown recovery period."
