WEC Engineering Academy opens New STEM Centre
In November 2023, we proudly opened our brand-new STEM centre at our WEC Engineering Academy in Blackburn, Lancashire. Our goal is to showcase engineering as an exciting and rewarding career path while providing hands-on experience.
To make a real impact, we have partnered with local schools and colleges in disadvantaged areas around Blackburn with Darwen. In our first academic year alone, we have engaged with over 200 students from years 6 to 11, offering a range of interactive activities. These include "Welding with Chocolate", a guided tour of our Academy, and the chance to try welding on our state-of-the-art £30,000 virtual reality welding simulator. The response has been extremely positive, and we already have over 300 additional students booked to visit during the 2024-2025 Academic year.
