WEC Group Team Taking on Born Survivor

WEC Group Team Taking on Born Survivor to Support Prostate Cancer UK

Next Saturday, a team of WEC Group employees, together with friends from The Foresters public house, will be putting their endurance and teamwork to the test as they take on the Born Survivor 10K challenge.

The event is set against the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, where competitors face more than 30 military-style obstacles, deep mud, and rugged terrain. Inspired by Commando training, the course is designed to push participants to their limits both physically and mentally. From crawling through trenches and clambering over giant A-frames, to braving ice baths and speeding down the infamous 60-metre Torpedo Slide into icy water, the challenge is as much about camaraderie as it is about fitness. The event culminates in the formidable Blitz Wall, where teamwork is essential to conquer the final hurdle.

This will be the second fundraising event of 2025 in support of our Charity of the Year, Prostate Cancer UK. Earlier this year, WEC Group staff rallied together to raise money and awareness for the cause at a Golf day in Accrington, and the Born Survivor challenge offers another exciting opportunity to continue these efforts.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with one in eight men diagnosed during their lifetime. For Black men, the risk is even higher at one in four. Prostate Cancer UK is dedicated to changing these statistics by funding vital research, driving awareness campaigns, and providing practical support for men and their families. Their research has already led to major breakthroughs, including more accurate diagnoses through multiparametric MRI scans and the development of the world’s first precision medicine for prostate cancer. With ongoing projects and clinical trials aiming to deliver a national screening programme, the charity’s work remains crucial in the fight against the disease.

By taking on the Born Survivor 10K, the WEC Group team hopes to make a meaningful contribution towards this mission. All funds raised will help Prostate Cancer UK continue its life-saving work, ensuring that future generations benefit from earlier diagnoses and more effective treatments.

The event also promises to be an unforgettable day for spectators, who will be able to cheer on participants at key points along the course and enjoy a lively, family-friendly atmosphere. With food and drink stalls, the Born Survivor Bar, and plenty of opportunities to capture the action, supporters will be part of the excitement from start to finish.

We wish our colleagues and their teammates the very best of luck as they prepare to tackle this incredible challenge. To support the fundraising efforts and help make a difference, please visit our Just Giving page.
