WEC Group Scoop Lancashire Telegraph Deal of the Year Award!

We are delighted to have won the Deal of the Year 2011 Award for this year's Lancashire Telegraph Awards. 2011 has been a very exciting year for the WEC Group, and on the back of our largest automotive contract to date, we had a lot to shout about indeed! Thanks to the Group management team's eye for a business opportunity, WEC managed to take this year's Deal of the Year title.

Says Wayne Wild, Group Director: "Our customers have invested in a strategic move from their current base in Leeds to a brand new factory in Sherburn-in-Elmet. They took a strategic decision to outsource the fabrication of all their bus metal structures to focus mainly on their assembly operation. WEC Group were invited to tender for the contract in its entirety as we currently produce some of the components required in Darwen using specialist flat bed and tube laser cutting equipment.

To win the contract we had to purchase a brand new 27,000ft factory at a cost of £1.5m on the same industrial estate as our customer and we also safeguarded 50 staff that were transfered to WEC's. We then had to restructure the building with an extra investment of £100k in 4 new overhead cranes and refurbish the offices to include a works canteen and stores, all in a very short space of time. Thanks to the deal and the group's substantial investments in new machines, WEC have managed to increase their staff from 303 at the start of 2011 to over 375 today.

The new Sherburn Metalwork factory, WEC's latest venture has now started their production of bus structures.

Winning this contract also meant a further investment of a £500k flat bed laser cutting machine to support the contract to be situated at Laser Engineering Division in Darwen. Not only does this help ensure the long term future of employees within Darwen, it also means 10 new jobs created."
The Group is currently going through an amazing spell of growth and we're delighted to have won a new Lancashire Telegraph Business Award.

WEC previously won the Business of the Year and the Training & Development Awards in 2009 and 2010 respectively, and we are delighted to add a third trophy to our collection!
