A Six Year Plan to Boost Business in Blackburn with Darwen, Creating 2,700 Jobs has Been Unveiled
WEC Group is getting behind the Hive's "Plan for Prosperity" which intends to secure greater prospects for the Borough over the next six years.
Hundreds of business leaders from across the Borough gathered at Accrol Papers where local businesses and council leaders, including WEC Group, spoke about how they can work together to create a create an environment for a thriving and competitive business base, leading to improved prospects for our residents.
The Plan
The plan sets priorities for the Borough. These include creating 2,700 new jobs, getting more residents in work, bringing new investment and improving the infrastructure and housing of the Borough.
WEC Group Commercial Director, Wayne Wild, said: "I think it's very important to retain people within the Borough. I live in Darwen, from Blackburn. My children are schooled in Blackburn and Darwen and I'm very proud of the area."
The plan, essentially a blueprint for business growth in the Borough from now until 2020, has been prepared by the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) in conjunction with the council and business leaders network Hive.
Chairman of the LSP, Mo Isap, said: "We want to say to every business in this Borough that we will achieve growth. We are creating 2,700 new jobs, more than 3,000 new homes, homes for those who want to stay.
"We are not going to allow for our town to be talked down any more."
The plan focuses on five key priorities; infrastructure and housing, business investment and innovation, employability, quality of life and image and marketing.
