Regional Success for WEC Apprentices

This has been an exciting couple of weeks for our apprentices as they took part in the WorldSkills UK Regional Competitions across the welding and metal fabrication categories.
Last week, six apprentices from the WEC Engineering Academy competed in the North West regional welding competition, where they showcased the skills they have developed throughout their apprenticeships. We are delighted to share that WEC apprentices secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the North West region, an outstanding achievement!
The WorldSkills welding competition is designed to challenge apprentices in a wide range of essential skills. competitors are assessed on health and safety, their ability to work independently, manual dexterity, accuracy, multi-process welding techniques, attention to detail, numerical skills, quality assurance and their knowledge of national and international welding standards. Achieving success in such a demanding competition is a fantastic accomplishment.
This week, attention turned to the North West regional metal fabrication competition held at Coleg Cambria. Four WEC Engineering Academy apprentices represented us and performed exceptionally well throughout the competition. We are proud to say that all four competitors ranked within the top 10 across the North West, demonstrating their fabrication skills against some of the region's most talented apprentices.
In total, 10 WEC Engineering Academy apprentices have competed across the two WorldSkills categories, and every one of them should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Congratulations to everyone who competed. The next stage now awaits our top three welding apprentices, who have qualified for the UK Finals. They will compete against around 100 apprentices from across the country for the opportunity to progress even further in the competition. We wish them the very best of luck and look forward to following their journey.
