WEC Engineering Academy Host the Regional WorldSkills Competition
We're delighted to announce that the regional stage of WorldSkills UK Competition (welding Category) will be hosted at WEC Engineering Academy in Blackburn!
We also have some fantastic news to share — 6 out of 6 of our welding apprentices who entered the competition have successfully made it through to the next stage!

This is a huge success for WEC and our academy as we continue to grow and deliver high-quality apprenticeships across the engineering and manufacturing sector, helping to build a stronger future for young people in the welding and fabrication industry.
So what are our Apprentices competing for?
WorldSkills UK is a national competition involving many different sectors. Within the Engineering and Technology category is the Welding competition — an elite national category designed to test, benchmark and elevate the skills of trainee and apprentice welders working towards Level 2–3 or higher vocational qualifications.
A total of 11 apprentices, including our own, will compete in the regional competition in Blackburn, where they will have four hours to complete four welds — one weld per hour — with only one attempt at each. The apprentices will demonstrate strong technical skills, accuracy and consistency, excellent health and safety awareness, and the ability to perform under pressure.
The highest-performing competitors from the regional heats will have the opportunity to progress to the WorldSkills UK National Finals later this year, competing against the very best apprentice welders from across the country.
This achievement reflects WEC Engineering Academy's continued commitment to delivering industry-leading apprenticeship training and investing in the future of UK manufacturing and engineering talent.
