WEC Group has been recognised as a Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer.
WEC Group has been recognised in the prestigious Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list, which is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognises excellence in businesses that employ apprentices.
The list was announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards, which took place on 20 January at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
After a tough selection process, the most exceptional apprenticeship employers from all of the National Apprenticeship Awards employer categories went forward to feature in the list, which showcases the breadth of employers who now offer apprenticeships.
WEC Group has been recognised in the list as a result of winning the BAE Systems Award for Large Employer of the Year in Liverpool City Region, Cumbria and Lancashire at the National Apprenticeship Awards regional ceremony in October 2016.
Commenting on the company's entry in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list, Kris Mercer, WEC Group's Training & Development Manager, said: "We are extremely delighted and proud to be recognised for our commitment to investing in apprenticeships.
"The company puts a huge amount of effort and money into ensuring local young people receive the best possible training, setting them up for a rewarding career in engineering, as well as helping to close the worrying engineering skills gap."
Sue Husband, Director of the National Apprenticeship Service commented on WEC Group being named a Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer:
"The Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list 2016 demonstrates clearly the impact apprentices can have on an organisation. Apprentice employers are creating opportunities for individuals to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, up to degree level, while working and earnings.
"These Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers are making a difference to the lives of their apprentices by investing in their future. In return, apprentices are helping employers to develop a skilled, qualified workforce to build a stronger economy."
WEC Group will be recruiting its September 2017 intake of Welding/Fabrication, CNC machining and Technical Production Engineering apprentices for WEC Group Training Academy in Lancashire and Yorkshire in Spring.
